Overview:
MyMMOGames (MMOG) is a Massively Multiplayer Online game community established June 16, 2008. MMOG is a community for the "nomad MMO gamer" - a community where a gamer can plug into a solid community and not have to leave that community when he/she moves on to a new game.
MyMMOGames features discussion forums, a comprehensive MMO wiki for featured (and other) games, member blogs, an image gallery, and IRC chat. New features are added constantly as we develop custom modules and upgrade to latest versions of our forum/wiki software. MMOG is managed by an all-volunteer staff and potential staff members go through a rigorous selection process before being promoted. MMOG is free for use and is supported through community donations and advertisements.
History:
MMOG began as the Trickster Online fansite MyTrickster in July of 2006. In spring 2008, the MT staff began to foresee the end of the community and wanted to ensure its survival following the death of Trickster Online. The administrators did not have the necessary access to the server or DNS records to add features to the site. After 3 months of attempting to contact MT's owners, the decision was made to branch off. MT was subsequently closed, sold, and re-opened. MMOG maintains no affiliation with MT.
MMOG has been through three site design revisions. The first was a design obtained from vBulletin.org which was quickly replaced with a custom design by sunchip. The 3rd revision was made to integrate the site's components into one cohesive unit and move away from the "forum+wiki" mentality. The project was dubbed "MMOG 1.0" and credited as follows:
- Project Manager: NoeJeko
- Designer: Bob
- Production Engineer: NoeJeko
- MMOG Logo: sunchip
- Icon Designs: Bob
- Miscellaneous Graphics: Bob, Catharsis, Kudaranai, Glarbage, Rtothef
- Security Consulting: Phil
- Marketing Consulting: Hpnotiq
- QA Team: MMOG Staff
In Q1 2009, the MMOG team once again assessed the direction of the site. Our vision of "one site - one community" hadn't held up too well. The numbers show that a dedicated fansite performs better than a combined fansite and we needed to branch off if we want to ensure the prosperity of the community. The "MMOG 2.0" project was started. The original scope of MMOG was to feature 9 games so that we never became a massive MMO portal and maintain that "dedicated fansite" feel across our features. Under MMOG 2.0, each featured game will have its own site sharing user repositories, profiles, blogs, albums, off-topic forums, and social groups to maintain community cohesion.
